Servings: 4
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20 or ground chuck)
- salt
- pepper
- garlic powder
- onion powder
- 4 hamburger buns
- toppings: cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup, mustard, mayo, etc.
Prepare the grill: clean the grates with a grill brush, lightly oil the grates, and preheat the grill to 400-450 degrees.
Form your patties: divide 1 pound of ground beef into 4. Form 4 patties so that they are about 3/4-1 inch thick and slightly wider than your buns. Press a small indentation in the center of the meat patty to prevent puffing.
Season: liberally season both side with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Grill: place patties on the grill. Flip just once for the best result. Do not press down on the patties with a spatula. If desired, add cheese during the last 1-2 minutes of grilling. For best result, use a meat thermometer.- medium rare: 3-4 minutes per side- medium: 4-5 minutes per side- well-done: 5-6 minutes per side Toast buns: butter the cut sides of your buns and grill for 30-60 seconds, until warm and golden.
Rest: remove the burgers from the grill and allow them to rest for 3-5 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute.
Build your burger: place a grilled burger on a toasted bun, then top with your favorite toppings and condiments.
