Soft and fluffy banana muffins topped with a rich Nutella swirl. These easy Nutella banana muffins are perfect for breakfast, brunch or snacking.

Soft Banana Muffins with Nutella Swirl
These Nutella Swirled Banana Muffins combine two of my favorite things: soft homemade banana muffins and creamy chocolate-hazelnut spread. They are light, fluffy, and filled with sweet banana flavor with a rich Nutella swirl baked into the top of every muffin!
This is a great recipe for using bananas that have become a little too ripe to eat on their own (as is this recipe for Banana Pumpkin Muffins!). The softer and more spotted the bananas are, the sweeter and more flavorful the muffins will be.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe:
- Soft and fluffy – these muffins have a tender texture thanks to the soft ripe bananas.
- The ingredients list is simple and only a few simple steps.
- This recipe is a delicious alternative to traditional banana bread.

Tips for the best nutella banana muffins
Here are a few of my tips and tricks for the best muffins every time.
- Use very ripe bananas for the best flavor.
- Measure the flour carefully and avoid packing it into the measuring cup. I like to spoon the flour into the measuring cup, then level the top.
- Once the flour has been added, mix the batter only until the ingredients are combined. Don’t overtax!
- Warm the Nutella for a few seconds to make it easier to spoon and swirl. You want it softened and pourable but not excessively hot.
Optional Add-ins
This banana muffin recipe is easy to customize. Fold in chocolate chips for extra chocolate flavor, or add chopped walnuts or pecans for a little crunch!
How to Store Banana Muffins
Store the cooled muffins in an airtight container at room temperature. You can also freeze them. If freezing, but. sure to cool the muffins completely before placing in a freezer-safe container for up to three months. Just thaw them overnight in the fridge or a few hours at room temperature when you’re ready to enjoy them.

Nutella Swirled Banana Muffins
Ingredients
- ½ cup unsalted butter softened
- ¾ cup packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup milk at room temperature
- 2 ripe bananas peeled and finely chopped
- ½ cup Nutella
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F. Grease a standard 12-cup muffin pan or line it with paper liners.
- Place the Nutella in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 30–45 seconds, or until softened and easy to stir. Set aside.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the softened butter and brown sugar for 2–3 minutes, or until light and creamy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- With the mixer running on low speed, add one-third of the flour mixture to the butter mixture, followed by half of the milk. Continue alternating the flour mixture and milk, ending with the remaining flour. Mix only until combined.
- Gently fold the chopped bananas into the batter.
- Divide the batter evenly among the prepared muffin cups.
- Top each muffin with about 2 teaspoons of softened Nutella. Use a toothpick or the tip of a knife to gently swirl the Nutella into the top of the batter.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the muffins are golden and a toothpick inserted into the banana portion of the center comes out clean.
- Allow the muffins to cool in the pan for 5 minutes. Transfer them to a wire rack to finish cooling before serving.
