Homemade Seasoning Blends

I love making my own seasoning blends from scratch. Just like in my homemade taco seasoning, making your own spice blends allows you to customize it exactly to your liking. You have control over the intensity of each ingredient, allowing you to create a blend that perfectly suits your taste preferences and recipes. You also avoid extra preservatives and additives that are sometimes found in store-bought spice blends to enhance shelf life and prevent clumping.

Creating your own blends ensures the use of fresh, high-quality ingredients. You can adjust quantities based on your needs, reducing the chances of having stale or expired spices in your blend. Making your own allows you to reduce the salt content without sacrificing flavor. Pre-packaged blends may be more expensive, as you are paying for the convenience of having them pre-mixed. Making your own can be a budget-friendly (and best of all delicious) alternative. Keep this steak seasoning blend in your pantry to make the best steak!

Steak Seasoning Ingredients

Here is a list of the ingredients that make up this easy steak seasoning. For the full recipe and all measurements, see the recipe card at the bottom of the post. Whisk everything together and store in an airtight container or jar.

  • Garlic powder: Adds a robust and savory flavor to the seasoning.
  • Onion powder: Adds a sweet and savory onion flavor that perfectly compliments the steak.
  • Red pepper flakes: Bring a touch of heat and a subtle smokiness to the blend. The level of heat is customizable, so feel free to add more for a spicier seasoning, or less if you are sensitive to heat.
  • Chili powder: Contributes warmth, depth, and a hint of smokiness to the seasoning.
  • Paprika: Made from dried peppers, it has a vibrant color and a mild, slightly sweet flavor.
  • Coriander: Comes from the seeds of the cilantro plant and adds a citrusy and slightly sweet undertone to the seasoning.
  • Ground mustard: Provides a sharp and tangy flavor.
  • Dried Thyme: Adds a herbaceous and earthy flavor, along with a layer of freshness.
  • Black pepper: A classic spice that adds a mildly spicy kick that enhances the overall flavor of the seasoning.
  • Brown sugar: Adds a touch of sweetness and balances out the heat and acidity from other spices.

How to Make Steak With Steak Seasoning

While this is a steak seasoning, it is also delicious on chicken or vegetables! Here is how to make a steak with steak seasoning.

  1. Choose your steak: Filet mignon, ribeye, strip steak, sirloin, t-bone, etc.
  2. Prepare your steak. Allow it to come to room temperature and pat it dry.
  3. Season the meat. Season the surface of the steak on both sides generously with this Easy Steak Seasoning blend.
  4. Cook the steak. The stovetop, grill, smoker, and broiler are all great options. When it is cooked to your desired doneness, allow the steak to rest for a few minutes and enjoy.

Storing Homemade Seasonings

Keep this seasoning blend in an airtight container in your pantry for up to three months. A jar with a lid works great for storing. Take out what you need for your steak and put the rest back in your pantry.
