Let’s make the viral TikTok Cucumber Salad two different ways! Here’s the best way to eat an entire cucumber (in a jar or container).

If you are on TikTok, you’ve likely seen the videos from a creator named Logan – we’ll call him “the cucumber guy.” He starts out his videos by saying “sometimes you need to eat an entire cucumber” and then he goes on to slice up a cucumber and combine it with a variety of ingredients to create different cucumber salads in a jar.

The jar is important! Somehow he stuffs an entire cucumber into a jar or container, adds all of the sauce ingredients, and manages to shake it up into the most delicious cucumber salads that have been going viral all over TikTok. Today I’m making two different cucumber salads – one with an Asian inspired dressing, and another with a cream based, more traditional dressing.

You know I love a good viral TikTok recipe ( Cottage Cheese Queso anyone) and this cucumber salad is no exception. Let’s make it!

Slicing Cucumbers for Viral Cucumber Salad

In his videos on TikTok, Logan (cucumber guy) uses a mandolin to thinly slice an entire cucumber. You do not have to own a mandolin to make cucumber salad. There are other options.

  1. Knife – a sharp chef’s knife, santoku knife, or even a serrated knife is a great option for thinly slicing a cucumber into rounds.
  2. Mandoline – the benefit of using a mandolin over a knife is that you will have uniformly thin slices. Be sure to use the hand guard to protect those fingers!
  3. Spiralizer – in one of the variations that I share with you today, I used my spiralizer to create cucumber “noodles” much like you’d do with a zucchini to create “zoodles.”

Ingredients for Viral Cucumber Salad

We are making this viral TikTok Cucumber Salad two different ways. Here are the ingredients that you will need aside from a whole seedless English cucumber.

Cucumber Salad Version #1 (Asian inspired)

  • Soy sauce
  • oyster sauce – alternatively, you can use fish sauce. Oyster sauce is a bit sweeter, less salty and more mild than fish sauce
  • sesame oil – nutty, rich, and deep flavor – only a small amount is needed in this recipe as a flavor enhancer
  • rice vinegar – apple cider vinegar is a good alternative if you do not have rice vinegar
  • garlic – I use 1 clove but measure this with your heart and add as much garlic as you see fit.
  • chili crunch – adds a little spice and flavor
  • sugar
  • green onion – sliced thin
  • creamy peanut butter
  • MSG (optional) – this is a flavor enhancer that is optional. The cucumber guy incorporates it into his recipe. If you use it, just a pinch will do the trick. MSG stands for monosodium glutamate and it occurs naturally in foods like tomatoes, cheese and mushrooms. In the past, it has unnecessarily had a bad reputation but it has been considered safe to consume by organizations including the FDA and the WHO.
  • Sesame seeds – a handful of sesame seeds adds crunch and texture

Cucumber Salad Version #2 (Creamy, more traditional)

  • Mayo
  • Sour Cream
  • White Wine Vinegar
  • Sugar
  • Dried Dill – use fresh dill if you have it!
  • Black Pepper

How to Make TikTok Cucumber Salad

This cucumber salad is quick and easy to make. Here’s how:

  1. Slice the cucumber – use whatever method works best for you whether it’s a sharp chef’s knife, a mandoline, or a spiralizer.
  2. Place the cucumber in a jar or ounce deli container. Alternatively, you can also simply place it in a bowl. If using a mason jar or deli container, go with the 32 ounce size.
  3. Add the sauce ingredients to the container with the cucumbers.
  4. Shake it up – the jar will be pretty full and it may seem like the sauce ingredients won’t incorporate and get mixed, but keep shaking the jar and eventually all of the sauce ingredients will be incorporated well.

Tips and Tricks

This cucumber salad is SO versatile, easy to make, and so delicious. Here are a few tips and tricks to make the BEST viral cucumber salad:

  • Safety first – when slicing cucumbers with a mandoline, be sure to use the guard to avoid cutting your fingers.
  • Choose the right cucumber – I recommend using a seedless English cucumber – they have a crisper texture, fewer seeds, and work great for cucumber salad.
  • Slice uniformly – again, this can be achieved in a variety of ways whether it’s with a mandoline, spiralizer, or a kitchen knife
  • Add a fresh garnish – thinly sliced green onions for the Asian variation, and chopped fresh dill for the creamy variation elevate the salad
