helpful tips and variations

Here are a few tips, tricks, and variations that will help you make the best baked ham and cheese sliders!

  • Make ahead: assemble the sliders up to 24 hours in advance, except don’t brush the rolls with the butter sauce. We don’t want soggy sliders. Cover and refrigerate, then when you’re ready to make them, re-melt the butter sauce, brush, and bake.
  • Swap the cheese: Swiss cheese is classic but provolone, cheddar or mozzarella all work well!
  • Crispier tops: if you want a golden, crispy top, remove the foil and broil for the last 1-2 minute but watch closely so that they don’t burn.

Baked Ham and Cheese Sliders

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 24 Hawaiian Rolls or Potato slider rolls
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons poppy seeds
  • 1/3 cup onion, finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 ½ – 2 pounds deli ham, sliced thin
  • 12 slices swiss cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Prepare the slider rolls: Slice slider rolls in half horizontally, keeping them connected if possible. Arrange the bottom halves in a single layer on a large rimmed baking sheet (about 13×18 inches).
  • Make the butter sauce: in a small bowl whisk together melted butter, poppy seeds, finely diced onion, dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce until well combined.
  • Assemble the sliders: evenly layer the sliced ham over the bottom halves of the rolls. Place the Swiss cheese on top of the ham. Use a spoon to spread the butter sauce evenly on the underside of the top halves of the rolls, then place the tops onto the sliders, buttered-side down.
  • Cover and bake: cover the tray with foil and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the sliders are warmed through.
  • Remove from the oven, separate the sliders and serve.
