Tips and Tricks

  • Preheat your air fryer. Just like you would preheat your oven before baking, you should always preheat your air fryer so that it is at the right temperature as soon as your food is in the basket.
  • Cut Potatoes Uniformly: Try to cut the potatoes into evenly sized pieces to ensure they cook at the same rate. This will help prevent some pieces from becoming overcooked while others remain undercooked.
  • Soak the potatoes before cooking. Pat them dry thoroughly before seasoning and air frying.
  • Shake the potatoes halfway through. This will ensure that they cook evenly, prevent sticking, and get nice and crisp on the outside.
  • Don’t Overcrowd the Basket: Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket to allow for proper air circulation. Cook the potatoes in batches if necessary to achieve crispy results.
  • Mix up the seasonings. Don’t be shy with the seasonings! Red potatoes have a mild flavor that pairs well with a variety of herbs and spices. Experiment with different seasoning blends to find your favorite combination. Shredded parmesan cheese is also delicious on these potatoes when you are ready to serve them.

Do I need to peel the potatoes first?

Nope! This skin on red potatoes is thin and adds great texture and flavor to the potatoes.

Why do I have to soak the potatoes?

Soaking the potatoes in water before cooking them helps to remove some of the excess starch on the surface and results in a crispier exterior. It can also help to soften them slightly, which can result in a creamier texture on the inside while still maintaining a crispy exterior when cooked in the air fryer. So while the potatoes would still be delicious if you don’t soak them, it is worth the extra time.

Storing and Reheating Leftovers

Store any leftover red potatoes in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat them in the air fryer for five minutes or until heated through. Always use your best discretion with leftovers.
